Appraisal Services
Formal Appraisals: Require researching the monetary value of objects and preparing written reports in the format required by the IRS and major insurance companies.
Formal appraisals are need to:

Determine insurance replacement value. Two-hour minimum.
•
Determine the fair market value of objects for estate tax or for charitable donation purposes.
Four-hour minimum.
Long distance appraisals are possible under some circumstances; please call for information.
Fee: $175.00 per hour.
Informal Oral Assessments: We offer informal oral reports identifying, dating, and estimating the replacement value of historic clothing and textile items. This service can be done from clear photographs as well as in-person consultations. We can also date your family portraits and photographs based on the style of the clothing worn by the subjects in the image.
Fee: $30 for the first half hour and $50 an hour after that.
Conservation and Restoration Services
For Museums: Our conservation services for museums follow accepted procedures of the American Institute of Conservation and Historic Works.
For Private Clients: We offer restoration services for family heirlooms.
Fee: $60 an hour, with a one-hour minimum. Fee includes written condition report and treatment proposal; materials billed at cost.
Exhibition & Installation Services
Institutions:
Exhibition services include concept planning, scheduling, budgeting, mannequin selection, writing and copy-editing exhibition labels and catalogs, accessory mount construction, and dressing mannequins in the correct period silhouette.
Private Collectors:
We offer private collectors the same quality exhibition services available to institutions.
Fee: $50 to $75 an hour, with project estimates determined in consultation with clients.
Mannequin & Exhibition Prop Rental:
We have a rental stock of mannequins (with heads) and torso forms (headless) and reproduction underwear and accessory props suitable for displaying men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing from the 18th to 21st centuries.
Fee: Varies depending on items rented; reasonable weekly or monthly rates.
Reproduction Clothing Services
We custom-make authentic reproduction garments to supplement museum displays and for individuals to wear in living history interpretations.
Fee: Project fee includes the research, design, garment construction, and materials.
Collections Management and Documentation Services

Research, inventory, dating, and cataloging services for institutional and private collections of all sizes.

Advice about cost-effective storage solutions and training for volunteers.

Suggestions for the type of collection database system best suited to your collection needs.
Fee: $40 to $60 an hour depending on scope of project.
Grant Writing & Editing
Grant writing and editing services to museums for costume and textile projects. At the Valentine Museum, Costume & Textile Specialist Colleen Callahan was a major contributor on four successful state and national grants totaling over $200,000.
Fee: $40 to $50 an hour.
Workshops
Customized one-day workshops presented on costume/textile conservation, exhibition, object identification/dating, and collection management topics directed toward staff and volunteers of museums and historic sites.
Fee: $1000, plus travel expenses.
Lectures
We present lively, interesting talks suitable for college classes, and special interest, community and professional groups.
Fee: $200, plus travel expenses.
